Trials Evolution : A Simple Easter Egg Turned Out to Be an Unsolved Mystery

It is a common thing in videogames that developers hide easter eggs as a challenge to their fans or just as a shoutout to another game, but i came across a easter egg that could be the most complex and hardest to solve, everything started in Redlynx forums, everyone was talking about a game called Trails Evolution, the game developer said on a interview that in some levels of the game there was something hidden and that he has let down because no one found it, so when this interview was released a mulitude of people started looking for this message.

MurdocLoch, was the main mind behind decoding this secret, when he started to play the game, he saw in every stage a wooden plank with letters that didnt meant anything just by looking at it, but he thought that those planks were suspicious, he took every piece of text and used a system called A Cifra de Vigenère, he discovered the meaning of the first word and with that it was easy to understand the rest of the words in sucesion.

The message ended up saying this: IN-GAME MUSIC TO 0 FROM THE GAME OPTIONS NATURE CALLS WITH SCORPION. START AND PASS THE FIRST CHECKPOINT. LEAP FROM THE ROCK AND STOP ON THE NEXT ROCK. PUSH THE RIGHT STICK- UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT.

The main clues were the words 'Nature Calls' that is a track of the new DLC Riders of Doom and Scorpion a motorcycle od the game, the rest of the message are commands you have to make in game in that specific track and motorcycle, when you enter the code a song starts to play.

The song had strange noises that should not had been there so MurdocLoch, using a spectrum analysis for the existing in game music, he discovered that a repeating morse code segment appeared, wich was: .– .– .– .-.-.- ..-. .. -..- . -.. .–. .- – - . .-. -. . -. -.-. — -.. . … .-.-.- -.-. — –.

When MurdicLoch looked on google what that code was for, it sent him directly to a page called, www.fixedpatterncodes.com, at that time the site had a image that no one understood.

After many attempts to decode it, he found out some letters behind the grey image, at first he did not knew what language it was but when he published it on Redlynx, he got many replies saying it was latin.

That paragraph is an extract from a poem of Tito Lucrecio Caro, a roman philosofpher best known of his poem De Rerum Natura. After 3 weeks the image on the internet site changed, and that happened for 26 days, each one of those images represented a specific person, they took the first letter of each name to give a meaning to those images, so they ended up with the alphabet.

When the site ended sharing those images a question appeared, you could olny answer it with every letter in the correct order, when you got the question right, it gave you 4 geographic coordinates, each one on a different part of the planet, San Francisco, Bath, Helsinki and Sydney, when people arround those areas went to search for something related with this puzzle, they were surprised because in each point was a small wooden box with a key and a notes inside of them, one of the notes said: Year 2113, the first saturday of August, one of the five keys will open the box under the Eiffel tower, but the problem is that until today there are only four keys and they havent foud the box under the tower,and it appears that we will have to wait another hundred years to finally know the mystery of the game Trials Evolution.
