Being able to share my life with a sister is probably the best thing that has ever happened to me. I didn’t know that when we were younger of course, we were both so focused on being better than the other that I did not know we were building a bond so strong, not even the worst circumstance could break it. But as I grew up, I realized that my life without my sister would feel empty. People tend to think that the term love comes down to having a partner to share the rest of your life with, but I think they usually forget that the person you’ll share your entire life with, is not your husband or wife. Not even your parents. Those persons are your siblings. For me, is is the purest form of relationship you’ll ever have.
If I take a look back at my childhood days, in all the good moments my sister is always present. She was also there in the hardest of times. She is that kind of person that can truly make me laugh when I’m in my worst moments. I learned to live and share everything with her, which actually caused a lot of rivalry as we were growing up. I know now that this rivalry was actually a sign of affection. You hate your older sister for having better clothes than you, but it is actually a shell to hide your admiration for her. I remember a time when my sister would try to copy every single thing I did, to like the same things I liked and sometimes, even trying to socialize with my own friends. I got really pissed. I hated her for wanting to be like me. Now I get it. I was her role model while growing up, and I could not be more grateful for that.
Science rarely mentions the bond between siblings. Apparently it has not been studied deeply, but I think it must be really interesting to know how this bond is stronger than any other relationship you’ll have with a human being. Not even with your parents. It is amazing how that connection goes beyond genetics.
I do not remember the exact moment in which I accepted I really loved my sister more than anything in this world, nor how our relationship became so close and so full of great moments that people began to notice it and started telling me “Oh it seems you really get along with your sister”. In popular culture, the sibling bond has been presented in a wide variety of films. In all of them the message is the same, no other love can compare to the love you have for your siblings. Having a sibling is having someone you know you can truly be yourself without getting judged. A partner in crime. They teach us to see life in a different perspective, and personally, my sister helped me mature. Siblings are a gift. People always say that you are a single human being and that you are unique, but somehow, when I’m with my sister, we connect so close that it feels like we are the same soul living in two bodies at the same time
